My Story
I started my art journey as a child in Kyiv, Ukraine, where my great-uncle, a prominent local artist, taught me to look directly to nature as the ultimate master and to observe the world without rigid academic constraints. Yet, it wasn’t until many years later, living in the United States, that the true, urgent purpose of my creative journey fully revealed itself to me.
The defining hardships of my life have been human-imposed, born of systemic deception, violence, and bureaucratic indifference. I lived through the devastating Chernobyl nuclear explosion, navigating a lifelong health disaster aftermath as a result of governmental negligence. Decades later, war tore through my homeland of Ukraine, and the boundary between good and evil felt entirely absolute. Yet, looking around, I watched the world divided and lost in geopolitical arguments, indifference, and manufactured media noise. I saw a society losing its humanity because it had forgotten how to protect what is not explicitly "ours." People continue to rush through life chasing advertised, artificial dreams—misinformed, opinionated, and stuck in a righteous state of chronic unfulfillment and exhaustion. Deep divisions are tearing through our societies.
Faced with this reality, I asked myself: What can help us heal? How do we defend our foundational humanity?
The answer proved simple, yet profound. No geopolitical explanation or selfish justification can ever validate a bomb falling on a child eating an ice cream cone or playing with a puppy. If we can collectively agree that the peaceful, innocent joy of that moment is more sacred than any political aggression, we have found our starting point for peace and happiness. We must actively protect these moments—not just for ourselves, but for one another. If we could move through the world with intention: fiercely experiencing our own moments, finding fulfillment in others enjoying theirs, and rejecting anything that is destroying those moments for us or for others, we would find true clarity.
My art is my deliberate defiance against this modern numbness; it is my battleground for joy and empathy. I paint the subjects that remind us what it means to be beautifully, simply alive. I capture the profound, wordless connection and shared meditation experienced on the dance floor within the tango embrace. I portray the deep, unconditional love shared with my two rescue dogs, a daily reminder that a profound understanding can exist across all living forms if we simply open our hearts, and that nature remains an untapped source of happiness. These are deeply accessible fragments of happiness that we can deliberately focus on and cherish, learning above all to celebrate the peaceful, joyful activities of those around us.
I paint seascapes and landscapes—capturing the vastness of the water or the quiet stillness of a horizon to afford the viewer a space for deep, meditative contemplation. I focus on specific everyday objects and physical environments, whether a pair of tango shoes with the scuffs of the danced miles or an ice cream cone ready to be licked before it melts, to serve as visual anchors. They pull us out of the noise of our minds and invite us to simply marvel at the relationship of colors or how the light plays across a surface.
I am profoundly grateful for the generations of artists who shaped art history, enduring criticism to grant us the artistic freedom we enjoy today. In honor of that legacy, I embrace the right to continuously evolve, experiment, and alter my style to match the emotional demands of the moment. My practice utilizes oils and acrylics, shifting fluidly between heavy, expressive textures that intentionally bypass detail, and moments of meticulous precision where brushstrokes disappear entirely. I am constantly seeking new ways to harmonize realism with abstraction, discovering that the creative opportunities are infinite. Painting on wood panels, in particular, offers a unique liberation. The wood easily absorbs the intense physical and creative energy I pour into the surface; its raw durability allows me to paint without fear or fragility, inviting a sense of playful, uninhibited freedom.
Life is too short to remain trapped in complex, cynical explanations. Through my work, I seek to provide you with a sanctuary. I want to inspire you to step out into the world, fiercely claim your moments of joy, find peace in a beautiful horizon, and find true happiness in seeing others happy. We must protect that sacred connection at all costs.
